First Load

Rest stop in Lilbourn, MO.

11:50

Left the Indianapolis terminal around 15:00 yesterday. First stop was fuel at Love’s Truck Stop. Our load weighs 30,000 lbs and is going to a retail store in Madison, MS. I drove until around 20:00 where we stopped for the night at a large rest stop just over the Missouri state line in Lilbourn on I-55. Rest stop had a large area for truck parking.

In the morning (today), did a pre-trip on the truck. Then drove a mile south where we ate breakfast at Jerry’s Cafe, a mom-and-pop truck stop. It was a cool place that hadn’t been updated in years which gave it the classic truck stop vibe. Staff was nice, but my first cup of coffee was served cold. Then my breakfast order was wrong. I got part of my trainer’s order and he got part of mine.

From there, drove until we were two hours from our destination. Our load is not due until 17:00, so we stopped at a Love’s in Batesville, MS for showers and to hangout. Shower facility was super clean. It felt good to get cleaned up.

19:15

Dropped off our load on time. No issues driving. Easy ride. It was a complicated drop. We had to move the empty trailer that was already at the retail store and then put our loaded trailer in its place. So I had to hook and unhook from each trailer twice. Good practice, except that it started storming and we had to rush through it. Other than that, it went well. I bumped the dock without too much difficulty.

We are sleeping in the parking lot of the shopping center tonight. Ate dinner at Moe’s Southwest Grill. Getting up at 04:00 to take our empty trailer to Alabama.
