Top Gun: Day 3
Today was Day 3 of Knight’s Top Gun program—over halfway through. Each day has been a mixture of simulation driving, driving in the yard, and lectures. Nothing has been too complicated. The instructor explains maneuvers well. Then we practice them. He also explains well why we made a mistake and how to fix it.
Today we got to back between two trailers. It was nerve racking, but fun. We also got to hitch/unhitch (couple/uncouple) the trailer. Interestingly, this is not taught in CDL school. So this was my first time doing it.
All of this is getting me excited to drive for real. I’m tired of being contained to a parking lot.
I’m still nervous about the lifestyle change. Will I like trucking? Will I like never being home? I’m really in my head about leaving my home behind. Like the life I know will be gone. Like Day 1, 2, 3, etc. of Top Gun is really a count down—5, 4, 3…until it all changes. I should find out tomorrow when I leave.
